Yo Nashville: Cam Liberty - Comin' In Hot [Feat. Scrilla]

Feels like: Imagine Dragons, Chance the Rapper, Beyonce, Danny Brown, Yuna, RDGLDGRN, Childish Gambino

This guy is pretty hard to place into a mold.  He literally has every sound from Country to Pop to Rock, but his standout to me is this gem.  It's a dope beat that reminds me a lot of Childish Gambino if he collaborated with Imagine Dragons.  Give it a listen here:

Doprah - Stranger People

Feels like: The XX, Phantogram, Jai Paul, How to Dress Well, Flume

Australia and New Zealand sure have a lot of bright talent these days.  Here is yet another one sure to be climbing our charts soon enough.  Enjoy!

Family and Friends - Wyoming

Feels like: The Head and the Heart, Mumford and Sons, Houndmouth, Typhoon

Have you ever been in love?  Don't know for sure, but want to find out?  Close your eyes and listen to this song.  Does anyone immediately pop into your head?  Well...I think we found out who you love.  And if the answer is no, then go ahead and fall in love with Family and Friends.  These guys are incredibly talented and their sound is here to stay.  So go ahead and fall in love right here, right now.

alt-J - Left Hand Free/Hunger of the Pine

Feels like: The Rolling Stones, The Kooks, Muse, The Whistles and the Bells, Led Zeppelin, Phantogram, M.I.A., Santigold

"Left Hand Free" is another song along the lines of The Kooks' new "Hooray for Henry" and let me tell you, this classic rock inspired jam is excellent.  "Hunger of the Pine" is more along the lines of what we have come to expect from alt-J, similar to a Phantogram with a Santigold or M.I.A. presence in the background.  One thing is for sure, alt-J was no mistake as they climbed to the top of the charts, and their new stuff is sure to impress.

Under the Covers: Local Natives - Out Getting Ribs [King Krule Cover]

Feels like: Woodkid, San Fermin

Local Natives making some good things happen, as usual.  If you want to check out the original song, here it is below.

Generationals - Gold Silver Diamond

Feels like: Peter Bjorn and John, Menomena, Los Campesinos!, Portugal. the Man

Hot new track for another hot hot day in July.  Generationals always bring the best out of simply sound.

Raury - God's Whisper

Feels Like: Outkast, Crystal Fighters, Lianne La Havas

"God's Whisper" is an out-there tune. It doesn't really sound like anything coming through the airwaves and simultaneously it feels like it could be chanted at the World Cup. Listening to more of his catalog just further confuses the categorization. Mixing Folk, Rap, and R&B (among other things) combined with the fact that he comes from ATL makes Outkast the easy comparison (he's going to be opening for them at their string of hometown shows in September). Comparing someone to Outkast though is basically just saying they're extremely creative and mix things up consistently. No matter what it sounds like, Raury is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Yo Nashville: Sol Cat - Bread on the Table

Feels like: Cherub, Lucius, Diarrhea Planet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Weeks

So I bet your summer is going pretty well.  A beach trip.  Maybe a few backyard bbqs.  Endless pool days and boozey weekends.  As if that is not enough, you now have a great new tune from your Nashville bad boys Sol Cat.  Go ahead and enjoy.

Andy Bull - Talk Too Much

Feels Like: Chromeo, Passion Pit, Cloud Control

"Keep on Running" was a summer staple in 2013. While it'd be hard to match that song's pop perfection, "Talk Too Much" comes pretty close. If I had a time machine, I'd take this one back to the Eighties and suggest it for inclusion on a John Hughes' movie soundtrack. Bull's next album Sea of Approval is set to be released on July11 and is sure to be full of electro-pop goodness.

Phox - Slow Motion

Feels Like: Lake Street Dive, Feist, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down

Sean posted a version of this song during the lead-up to Shaky Knees. Now, their self-titled debut album is out and we've got the official video. This album is top-notch head-to-toe. Like this tune, the songs keep you guessing and have the perfect guise for your summer playlists. Both thumbs up on our end.

PAPA - I Am The Lion King

Feels Like: Wild Cub, Leagues, Tom Vek

You name a song "I Am the Lion King" and you're setting the bar pretty damn high. PAPA hit their marks though, creating some simple, driving indie pop. And as always, black-and-white videos go a long way as far as cool factor (letting the yellow bleed through was a nice touch). If you're looking for a new groove, look no further.

Yo Nashville: The Apache Relay - American Nomad/Power Hungry Animals

Feels like: Langhorne Slim, Milo Greene, Bronze Radio Return, The Head and the Heart, Family and Friends, Delta Spirit, Shovel and Rope

Well folks, you get quite the lovely show tonight at Nashville Riverfront park for the Nashville Dancin' series.  Tonight The Apache Relay is playing, and if you haven't heard, they are quite amazing.  Give 2 of their bests a listen here, then head on out tonight to catch them headline.  By the way, if you love "Power Hungry Animals" and also love yourself a helluva a good summer movie, check them both out in "The Way Way Back".  If you are still hungry for more after that, check out "Can't Wake Up", "Ruby", "Home is not places" and "Katie Queen of Tennessee". Happy beginning to the 4th for you all!

Under the Covers: Caught a Ghost - Like a Virgin (Madonna Cover)

Feels Like: Jamie Lidell, Sunny Levine, Chromeo

Too much R&B singers these days take a kitchen-sink approach to their production. Thankfully, Caught a Ghost doesn't misstep. Taking a minimalist, repeating bassline and layering on some subtle touches (and, of course, a sax solo), Caught a Ghost achieves a groove primed for late night listening. Madonna could get down to this.
