Evil Friends, Portugal. The Man's seventh album, came out almost a year ago and somehow I missed this track. "Modern Jesus" bears more than a passing resemblance to Broken Bells' "Holding on for Life" and that could very well be because Danger Mouse produced both. While "Holding on for Life" clogged the air streams, I don't remember this one getting much play. It definitely deserved it though, as it is an equally catchy and moodily immersive track. The AG Rojas-directed video is a hodgepodge of beautifully shot images of life on the fringes of society.
