Too Sexy For Work: Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell & T.I. - Blurred Lines

Feels Like: Justin, Timberlake, John Legend, Usher

Good Morning Brethren. This one has been on a mental repeat since it dropped two days ago. Not only is the Neptunes produced reboot of Marivn Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" contagious, but Robin Thicke & Co, accompaniment provided by Mr. Clifford Joseph Harris (better know as T.I.), really do nail it here. The song has got a real funky vibe and wants to make you move. As you can see from their antics,  Robin, Pharrell, and T.I. feel the same. My favorite part of the video has got to be T.I. solo "James Browning" it. Just fantastic. Grabbing a close second is Mr. Thicke's message to the world spelled out in letter balloons. Grab some ear candy here and check it out!

When Saints Go Machine - Love and Respect ft. Killer Mike

Feels like: Kid Cudi, those awesome Ratatat remixes of Kanye/Jay-Z songs. M83 getting into the rap game

Aside from being a pretty sweet video, Killer Mike's verse is downright dirty.  I've been enjoying When Saints Go Machine for quite some time, and this intro into rap is a step in the right direction.  If you want some more from them, check out my favorite "Kelly" below.

Generationals - Ten-Twenty-Ten/When They Fight, They Fight

Feels like: Portugal. The Man, Electric Guest, Hot Bodies in Motion, TV on the Radio, Silversun Pickups, Yeasayer, White Rabbits, Chairlift, Phantogram, Broken Bells

Holy Thursday much?  Try some new songs from Generationals, they are sure to put you in chipper mood.  Before you know it, you'll have some fun fun fun in the sun.  Also check out the best single off their latest album "Actor-Caster" below.

Autre Ne Veut - Play by Play

Feels Like: How to Dress Well, R. Kelly, Cherub

Do we really need more over-the-top R&B songs? Obviously the answer is yes, but this is what I found myself thinking for the first 2 minutes and 20 seconds of this song. Then the refrain hits and it's been stuck in my head ever since. Autre Ne Veut's debut album Anxiety is out now and is full of spaced out R.Kelly-style jams.

The Features - Blow It Out/Big Mama Gonna Whip Us Good

Feels like: Sprung Monkey, Ra Ra Riot, Delta Spirit, Hot Bodies in Motion, Cold War Kids, Atlas Genius, Walk the Moon, The Fratellis

Some days you just need that song that puts you in a good mood.  For the past half decade or so that song has been "Blow It Out" by Nashvillians The Features.  Also check my favorite off "Wilderness", their new album; "Big Mama Gonna Whip Us Good" below.

Under the Covers: Hot Bodies in Motion - Electric Feel by MGMT/Slowly

Feels like: The Black Keys got into ElectroPop, On An On, My Morning Jacket, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Detroit Cobras, Allen Stone, Electric Guest

Any buddy of Allen Stone should be a buddy of yours, and these guys know how to put some soul into an old school rock song.  Gotta love the cover of Electric feel, but also check out my favorite original from them below.  Shred through this Monday.

Ghost Beach - Close Enough

Feels like: Wild Cub, Reptar, Jinja Safari, Midi Matilda, Robert DeLong, The Naked and Famous, Alex Clare, The Knocks, M83

Just a Monday morning, no reason not to enjoy it.  On another note, next week is Nashville Fashion Week.  We hope to see all of you there looking your bestest

Breathe Owl Breathe - Swimming

Feels Like: Yo La Tengo, Postal Service, Bon Iver

Here's a mellow one for your Sunday afternoon. Now nurse that hangover and we'll see ya at the top of the week.

Banks - Fall Over

Feels Like: Ellie Goulding, James Blake, How to Dress Well

LA-based Banks has only released two tracks but she's definitely on the right track. Using innovative vocals mixed with electronic backdrops, she's all set to grow right into the Ellie Goulding mold, and that's not a bad thing. Her debut EP is due out sometime in the coming months.

Jonquil - Mexico (Live Acoustic on Big Ugly Yellow Couch)

Feels Like: Vampire Weekend, Reptar, Chad Valley

Jonquil is an up and coming group from across the pond, Oxford, England to be exact. I came across this acoustic session, heard the live brass, and I felt the need to share. They have that distinct upbeat poppy feel nailed to a tee.  While doing some research on the band I came across the band's interesting self described flow chart of their musical journey:

"recorded an album in our bedrooms -> released an album -> played a few shows -> recorded another album in a deserted house -> toured all over europe -> built a studio -> built another studio -> went to america -> recorded an album in a proper studio"

That, ladies and gentlemen, is straight talk. Grab an ear and listen up.

The Radio Dept. - Heaven's on Fire/You Stopped Making Sense

Feels like: Wild Cub, Baths, Tokimonsta, The M Machine, old school Pretty Lights, Javelin, Kavinsky

"Heaven's on Fire" is a pretty happy song, just get past the opening 12 seconds of the demon face.  Now "You Stopped Making Sense" is one of those songs you should add to your bedtime or sleepy songs playlist.  It's very effective at calming you down, like a wee bit of whisky mixed into a bottle of milk.

Vampire Weekend - Step / Diane Young

Feels Like: Pop Etc, Beirut, TV on the Radio, Oregon Bike Trails

Vampire Weekend unleashed a double A-side from their upcoming album, Modern Vampires of the City, yesterday. As usual, the songs are catchy, baroque, and full of references that seem to come from colonial times. On first listen, I prefer the Souls of Mischief-referencing "Step," but I'm sure both will eventually become staples for the coming summer months. While Vampire Weekend always maintain their pop sensibilities, they also continue to experiment with their sonics as seen in these two songs. Looking forward to the new album, out May 7th.

Young Kato - Drink, Dance, Play/Life's Good

Feels like: Imagine Dragons, Robert DeLong, YesYou, The Ceremonies, The Neighbourhood

Found this little gem while in Orlando over the weekend.  If you've exhausted Global Concepts by Robert DeLong, here's your new addiction.

Kendrick Lamar - Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe (Remix Feat. Jay-Z)

Feels Like: Maybe HOV should drop 'Ye and pick up Kendrick for Watch the Throne II

Jay-Z. New Kendrick verses. Awesomely appropriate artwork. What more can I say?

Wildlife - Born To Ruin

Feels Like: Arkells, Passion Pit, Tokyo Police Club

Happy St. Patrick's Day brethren! I hope that last night was the was one for the books. I do also hope that you didn't run into anyone like the masked marauders in the above video.  They appear to be on a mission to break stuff and make out. Pretty cool. This one comes from the band Wildlife off their album On the Heart. Check out the jam and grab their album here.

UNDER THE COVERS - The Wood Brothers - I Got Loaded (Little Bob and the Lollipops Cover)

Feels Like: The Head and the Heart, G. Love, Marcus Foster

Saw The Wood Brothers play in a cave (yep, a cave) last week. They performed this great cover. I wasn't familiar with the original (it's included below) and am now a fan of both versions. The Wood Brothers have a way of making every song they perform sound timeless and this is no exception. Enjoy!

Allen Stone - Celebrate Tonight

Feels like: Dispatch, ZZ Ward, D'Angelo, Marc Broussard, James Blake

Such a new lovely video from Allen Stone.  Don't forget to catch him May 29th at the Ryman alongside Dispatch.  I'll see you all there!

UNDER THE COVERS: D'Angelo & Questlove - "Tell Me If You Still Care (S.O.S. Band Cover)

Feels Like: Melted Butter

A couple nights ago, D'Angelo & Questlove graced the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for a special duo performance dubbed "Brothers in Arms." I had the pleasure of seeing D'angelo and Questlove perform together last summer at Bonnaroo and I don't think there are two funkier cats on the planet. Some of the Brooklyn Bowl footage has found its way online and includes this little gem, a cover of S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care." D'Angelo has a habit of making even the shortest utterance soulful and Questlove is always killer behind the kit (if you haven't yet, check out his A Day in the Life doc here). This cover also highlights D'Angelo's amazing piano skills which his vocals always seem to outshine. Here's hoping this a sign that D'Angelo's long awaited third album is on the way...

The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather

Feels like: James Blake, Cherub, Miike Snow, Dom, Stepdad, Reptar

Probably my favorite song by The Neighbourhood now has a video to suit.  Sure it's a crummy day out, but on the bright side, it's Sweater Weather.

BOY - Little Numbers

Feels like: Regina Spektor, ZZ Ward, Husky, Those Dancing Days, The Sound of Arrows, Black Kids

Pretty great single off their new album "Mutual Friends".  The lead singer looks dead on like a girl I used to that's neat.

Under The Covers: What You Won't Do For Love - Jessie Ware (Bobby Caldwell Cover)

Feels Like: Norah Jones, Elaine Elias, Diana Krall

Hope the weekend was treated you well Brethren. In light of the day of the week, that being Sunday, I brining you something to recharge the batteries with. British native Jessie Ware has put together an intriguing and jazzy touch on the already jazzy Bobby Caldwell classic. Extra jazz on my Sunday? Please and thank you. Cherub - Jazzercise '95

Feels like: Miike Snow, MGMT, Passion Pit, Wild Cub, Chromeo, Yuksek

NEW SINGLE FROM CHERUB.  Just in time for the weekend.  O boy, and I didn't get you anything!

DWNTWN - Stood Me Up/I'm On Fire

Feels like: Polica, Gardens and Villa, The Neighbourhood, Daughter, HAIM, Freelance Whales, Bombay Bicycle Club

DWNTWN is a duo that has a very chilled out electronic sound.  I saw them about 6 months ago to a very underwhelming crowd at Mercy Lounge, but they still gave a lot to their live show.  I would bet they have aged well, and if you don't believe, check out their Dylan cover below.  FRIDAY
