Little Daylight - Overdose/Constant Conversations

Feels like: The Knocks, M83, The Naked and Famous, Phantogram, Passion Pit, Broken Bells, Yeasayer, Cherub, Yuksek, Metronomy

This neat new video from remix masters Little Daylight reminds me a whole helluva lot of The Knock's Midnight City video.  Also, you should check out their remixes of lots of hits.  My favorite is of Passion Pit's Constant Conversation below.

Jamie Lidell - You Naked

Feels Like: Hot Chip, Daft Punk, Chromeo, Justin Timberlake

Futuristic funk doesn't usually sound this futuristic or this funky. I see future-me jamming to this in my anti-gravity velour tracksuit. I hope future-you will join me. The same team who created the artwork (seen above) for his upcoming self-titled album directed this spaced-out video. Mr. Lidell will be touring this summer but unfortunately won't be stopping at our port; fingers crossed for a Bonnaroo appearance.

ON AN ON - The Hunter

Feels like: A less stressful version of Justice's "Stress", Wildcat! Wildcat!, Cherub

Criminal Mischief.  Pretty much sums that up.  Stress is below for everyone who hasn't seen it.  It's pretty much terrifying and awesome.

Klaxons - Golden Skans

Feels like: Robert DeLong, MGMT, Phantogram, Crystal Castles, Broken Bells, The XX, Neon Indian, Yeasayer

Here goes brothers.  This video is one of my favorites from my college days.  You know, it's one of those few hazy memories from a place I only spent 4 long years of my life at.  I hope you like it as much as I do.  Cuz it's flippin awesome!

Tame Impala - Mind Mischief

Feels Like: Blockhead, Yeasayer, Dirty Projectors, TV on the Radio, Mystery Jets

Awesome new video from Tame Impala.  Another mindbender trip that has more chill than an ice cream truck.  Sploosh!

Under the Covers: The Dirty Projectors - Climax (Usher Cover)

Feels Like: These Indie pop starlets should make a foray into the R&B realm

Solange famously turned The Dirty Projector's "Stillness is the Move" into a sultry slow jam. With this cover, Dirty Projectors show that they're equally comfortable belting out slow burners and couldn't have picked one more suited to their talents than Usher's "Climax". The action starts about a minute in.

Yo Nashville: Modoc - Coward

Feels like: The Whigs, Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids, The Features

A little pop-alt rock never hurt anybody, and Nashville-based Modoc has that sound that just seems destined for radio glory. The vocal harmonies sound great and the little Blues Brothers-style riff that serves as the transition between the verse and chorus adds the right amount of flavor. You can cop a free download of "Coward" here. Modoc will be playing 8 off 8th at Mercy Lounge on February 4th, we'll see ya there.

Yo Nashville is a segment in which we highlight local talent from here in Music City U.S.A.

Robert DeLong - Happy

Feels Like: Cherub, Wild Cub, Slam Donahue, Walter Meego, Oberhofer

Check out another jam from good guy Robert DeLong.  Get on yo dance pants, and come on to the party.

Of Monsters and Men - King and Lionheart

Feels like: The Lumineers, Band of Horses, Imagine Dragons, Run River North, The Head and the Heart

Check out the newest video for "King and Lionheart".  Definitely setting up for a sequel and a pretty cool, video gamey feel.

Sunny Levine - No Other Plans

Feels Like: Mikky Ekko, Rafter, Frank Ocean, Mar's "I'm Single" cover

It's always nice when a little hazy-summer soul slips through the cracks in the middle of winter. "No Other Plans" is pretty much all atmosphere, but it's the kind you could sit around in for days. And the line "It hasn't always moved at that pace, the records don't match the tapes," fits the song perfectly.

YesYou - Half of It/Amsterdam

Feels like: LexiconDon, Cherub, Wild Cub, Walter Meego, The XX, Jinja Safari, M83, Mkaio, Slam Donahue

Check out YesYou's latest two tracks off their debut EP.  The perfect chill beats to work your day away.

Ivan and Alyosha - Running For Cover

Feels Like: Andrew Belle, Fleet Foxes, Lord Huron, The Head and the Heart

Hello fellow musical enthusiasts! This jam, coming to us by way of Dualtone Records of Nashville, TN, is from the Seattle-native group Ivan & Alyosha. Dualtone Records, also home to past brethren-posted artists like Shovels and Rope and The Lumineers, has a way of finding artists with a catchy sort of familiarity in their tone, and "Running For Cover" by Ivan & Alyosha is no exception. Check out the tune here and come and see them at The High Watt on April 12th right here in Music City.

Kishi Bashi - It All Began with a Burst/Bright Whites

Feels like: Here We Go Magic, Gardens and Villa, Reptar, Monsters Calling Home, Husky, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Jinja Safari, The Wild, Dirty Projectors

Happy Martin Luther King day everyone!  I hope if you have off you are enjoying yourself, but if you are stuck in the office like myself, hopefully this can brighten your day.

MØ - Pilgrim

Feels Like: Ellie Goulding, Haim, RJD2

Using the collage-style video Lana Del Ray made famous, Copenhagen-based MØ debuts with a pretty hypnotic track. "Pilgrim" would just be white noise in the female Euro-electro-pop field if it weren't for some pretty catchy vocals and interesting instrumentation. The horns remind me of RJD2's "Ghostwriter"and that's definitely a good thing.

The Neighbourhood - A Little Death

Feels like: The Weeknd, Kid Cudi, Vacationer, Daughter, Stepdad, Cider Sky, Jai Paul, Chairlift

Another The Neighbourhood video.  Another Hitchcockian nightmare.  Worth a view, but maybe NSFW [no nudity, but it feels dirty].  These guys are gonna be big, just saying.

The Postelles - White Night/Pretend It's Love [feat. Alex Winston]

Feels like: The Kooks, The Last Royals, Motopony, The Elwins, Grouplove, Mystery Jets, Oberhofer

Poppy, fresh and catchy.  Yup, I do like the self-titled debut album from The Postelles.  And I think you will too.  This video is the first track on the album and is a feel good jam.
Also check out this awesome single featuring Alex Winston.  A very lovely song, indeed.

Pop ETC. - Keep it For Your Own

Feels like: Slam Donahue, Wild Cub, Passion Pit, Rich Aucoin, Walter Meego, Kishi Bashi

Check out Pop ETC's latest video premiering today!  Shucks, I want a mirror room to jam in...

Three Loco - We Are Llamas (Feat. Diplo)

Feels Like: Zach Galifinakis's "Can't Tell Me Nothing," Lonely Island

Andy Milonakis. Dirt Nasty. Riff Raff. Diplo. Alone, they have all had their moments (minus Riff Raff, he should probably find another profession). Together, and with a focus on the comedic side of rap, they pack quite the punch. Here in "We Are Llamas," which samples the "We Are Farmers" jingle, they each lay down impressively goofy verses over some pretty solid production.

Robert DeLong - Global Concepts

Feels like: Yacht, Calvin Harris, The Last Royals, Purity Ring, Mint Royale, Alex Clare

Feeling dancy?  Of course you are, I mean it's Thursday morning.  What better time to get your groove on?  Well here is a sweet new video from Robert DeLong, and yes it will make you f*cking dance.

Electric Guest - The Bait

Feels like: Cherub, Tom Vek, STRFKR, Alt-J, Willy Moon, Alex Winston, Yacht, Little Dragon, Metronomy, Phantogram, Foster the People

Guys, Electric Guest is really killing it and their album "Mondo" is a must have from 2012.  Here is their latest single off of it, and a very cool video to match.  I really think 2013 will be their year, and join the ranks of Foster the People at the top of the poppy, dancy, awesome music selection.

Frank Ocean - Pink Matter (Remix Feat. Big Boi & Andre 3000)

Feels Like: Phife and Q-Tip, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Bun B and Pimp C

Peanut Butter and Jelly. Salt and Pepper. Pancakes and Syrup. Some things just go together. And yes, it is incredibly infuriating that it has been seven years since we last had a fresh Outkast album, but we must take what we can get.  And what we got is a remix of Frank Ocean's "Pink Matter" which already featured Mr. Three Stacks himself.  Unfortunately, Andre 3K has already shot this (and the forthcoming "Sorry" remix) down as possible Outkast reunions, but, hey, there's still something magical about hearing Big Boi and Andre 3000 on the same track even if it isn't "official." So sit back and enjoy the true yin and yang that is the Almighty Outkast.

Back Again: De La Soul - Eye Know

Feels Like: A Tribe Called Quest, Arrested Development, Naughty By Nature

While Sean is EB's resident old-school hip-hop aficionado, I frequently dabble in the baggy-pants, high-top fade delirium that is hip-hop in the 90's.  Sampling Steely Dan's "Peg," and featuring a video in which De La Soul seemingly crash the set of Rugrats, "Eye Know"has all the elements of a classic hip-hop song: a break, a killer sample, and a pair of gifted wordsmiths.  Enjoy!

Back Again is a segment where we bring you funky jams you can once again funkify yourself to.

Cherub - Monogamy

Feels like: Diamond Rings, Stepdad, Reptar, STRFKR, Washed Out, SBTRKT, Phantogram, The Naked and Famous, Broken Bells, M83, MGMT, The XX

Check out Cherub's newest video for "Monogamy".  It fits the song very well, and I love the outro.  Also, if you are in Nashville this weekend, go to Cannery Ballroom Saturday night to see Cherub live.  They always put on one helluva show and I promise all the shows at the Cannery Row this weekend are set to be killer.

Grouplove - Colours

Feels like: Of Monsters and Men, Walk the Moon, The Shins, Wolfgang

Check out this Bonnaroo Hay Bale session with Grouplove.  Very cool. Very fun.  Very Grouplove.  If you ever get the chance to catch them in session, please do.  You will love it.

Deer Tick - Mainstreet

Feels like: Delta Spirit, Middle Brother, Dawes, Detroit Cobras, Kurt Vile, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Blitzen Trapper, Alabama Shakes, Jack White

This one goes out to our buddy Jake, and the night he tried to blow us all up.  Good-guy Jake put a mortar shell in our campfire without telling a soul and laughed as he watched the world burn.  Here's to you, firestarter and stopper.

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Family of the Year - Hero

Feels like: Brandi Carlisle, Husky, Pepper Rabbit, Milo Greene, City and Colour, The Wild

Just a feel good song from a feel good band.  Check them out at 3rd and Lindsley on the 27th.  See y'all there!

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Eclypse - 61 C [produced by Paco]

Feels like: Yury, Stalley, Kendrick Lamar, Raz, Pete Philly and Perquisite

Check out Eclypse's new video "61 C".  Such a killer beat.  Enjoy

Wildcat! Wildcat! - Please and Thank You

Feels like: Pacific Air, Mumford and Sons, Wild Cub, The Naked and Famous, LexiconDon, Miike Snow, MGMT, Passion Pit, The Neighbourhood, Jai Paul, Boombox

Check out this gooder from Wildcat! Wildcat!  Definitely worth a couple listens.

Oregon Bike Trails - High School Lover / Cayucos

Feels Like: Vampire Weekend, Foster the People, The Beach Boys

So we're getting a new Vampire Weekend album this Spring (!), but if you're looking for some upbeat indie pop to tide you over 'til then, then let me introduce you to Oregon Bike Trails.  Although their output is pretty limited (these two songs make up half their catalogue), they hit each song out of the park with undeniable catchiness and a straight-up sun-drenched tone.  It doesn't hurt that the "High School Lover" video includes some perfectly appropriate Wonder Years visuals.

Clock Opera - Once and for All

Feels Like: Theme Park, Capital Cities, M83, I Break Horses

Aren't end of the year lists the greatest? You get to come across cool tunes that you haphazardly skipped over, like this one from Clock Opera. This song is the single off of the London based group's debut album, Ways to Forget. Check out the jam, grab it here, and take a look at thier touching inspirational video centered around love found and lost later in life. Happy weekend to all eskimo brethren and to all a good night.

Kendrick Lamar - Backseat Freestyle

Feels Like: A victory lap for 2012's Rookie of the Year

I've been listening to this jam incessantly since Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City dropped, and while almost every song on that album could be considered a classic, something about "Backseat" makes it stand a little bit above the rest.  Maybe it's the unbridled energy, or perhaps it's the layering of vocals, or it could even be the minimalist production that just lets Kendrick shine.  Whatever it is, there's no better way to start your weekend.

Jai Paul - Jasmine

Feels like: College, Electric Youth, Cherub, Pretty Lights, Major Lazer, YesYou, Yeasayer

Check out this sweet mash-up of Jai Paul's "Jasmine" and Apocolypse Now.  Weekend in 3, 2, 1, go.

Thursday, January 3, 2013

Plants and Animals - Lightshow

Feels like: Here We Go Magic, Hey Rosetta!, Menomena, Maps and Atlases, Young the Giant, Of Monsters and Men

Here's a sweet one from the Montreal trio Plants and Animals.  It seems they are pretty much only scheduled to tour Canada for the moment, but you bet your bottom dollar we will let you know when they make their way south.  Enjoy!

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Motopony - King of Diamonds

Feels like: Portugal The Man, Electric Guest, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Mystery Jets, Tame Impala

Happy New Year everyone!  I discovered this little gem over the break and hope you all find it as kindly as I do.  May your 2013 be filled with brotherhood, adventure, fortune and of course, eskimo.
