Back Again: Camp Lo - Luchini (A.K.A. this is it)

Feels Like: A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, Souls of Mischief, Naughty by Nature, Jedi Mind Tricks

If I learned anything this holiday season, it was that the Andre 3000 Pandora radio station is dope. I'm offering you a sampling of my findings because, frankly, this track is all I have been listening to for the past 3 or 4 days. I'm bringing back Camp Lo to the scene. This Bronx duo is a true-to-form 90s rap group and with an incredible sense of flow and creative vintage hooks. To top it all off, with names like Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede you know you are getting a show at the very least. Camp Lo got their first start with their track "Coolie High" being featured in the 1996 boxing satire film, The Great White Hype. The track attracted a modest amount of attention, but would turn out to pale in comparison to the frenzy they received when the group released Uptown Saturday Night, their debut album, early in 1997. I have given the full album several listens and, in my opinion, this is one of the more complete rap albums I have ever heard. There are jazz and funk sensibilities abound in the album and the group's artistic weaving of their characteristic flow throughout the album has got me hooked. Check their major hit,  Luchini (A.K.A this is it) here and grab the album on iTunes.
