Feels Like: molasses, Mayer Hawthorne, Iron & Wine covering soul songs
Matthew E. White's music would be best categorized as sleepy soul; like playing a Sam Cooke record at half speed. Featuring a beautifully intertwined amalgamation of strings and horns and vocals, "Will You Love Me" is a standout track from his excellent album, Big Inner. Mr. White is playing Mercy Lounge with the Mountain Goats tomorrow night (Dec. 1st).

Solange Knowles - Losing You
Feels Like: Beyonce, Vampire Weekend, Ellie Goulding
It's taken Ms. Knowles a while to hit her stride. She has shown hints at her capabilities with her amazing cover of the Dirty Projectors' "Stillness is the Move" and her work on Theophilus London's single, "Flying Overseas." She never really found her voice as a solo artists though, that is, until now. "Losing You" is the perfect type of pop song, familiar in many ways but with some element that keeps you coming back for more. Using South Africa as the backdrop for her video, Solange Knowles showcases a Third World that is more Vampire Weekend than M.I.A, yet creates an image that is entirely her own. The sound is all 80's synths except for the rhythmic vocals and guitars that give the track just the right amount of freshness. Enjoy!

Yo Nashville: Mikky Ekko - Pull Me Down
Feels Like: James Blake, Frank Ocean, Muse, TV on the Radio, Imagine Dragons
Falling somewhere between the electro-pop sounds of Imagine Dragons and the more experimental mellow vibe of Brit James Blake, Nashvillian Mikky Ekko kicks out a pretty pleasing sound. Not sure what's next for Ekko, but the Clams-Casino co-produced "Pull Me Down" is definitely a step in the right direction. You can download the fresh track under the hazy underwater video below.

Yo Nashville: Valerie June - Workin' Woman Blues/Give Me Water Feat. John Forte
Feels Like: Robert Johnson's long lost granddaughter
Here's a twofer for your friday. Nashville (by way of Humboldt, Tennessee) resident Valerie June has a timeless voice and a knack for contemporary blues/soul songwriting. "Workin' Woman Blues" and "Give Me Water" are just two of her standouts, and pretty much everything I've heard from her is amazing. This is the kind of artist that needs to hook up with T-Bone Burnett and become a huge star, Enjoy your weekend!

Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards
Feels like: Pop Levi, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Holy F**k, Atlas Sound, Wavves, Here We Go Magic
Here's a trippy one for you. But it sure is a gooder. Enjoy your lazy Sunday.
The Lone Bellow - You Never Need Nobody
Feels Like: Dawes, Andrew Combs, The Band
Here's a little slow burn for your Sunday afternoon. The Lone Bellow supported the possibly-defunct Civil Wars recently, and judging by the heart and soul in this fireplace-backed performance, you can see why they got the gig.

Jacob Banks - Kids on the Corner
OUR 200th POST!
Feels Like: John Legend, Amy Winehouse, Gary Clark Jr.
Keeping the British soul revival alive, Jacob Banks brings to mind John Legend's velvety tone. On top of that, the production is amazing and the song is perfectly crafted. At times, it even brings to mind the Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic, "I Put a Spell on You."
This is our 200th post, so we just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's read, shared, and enjoyed our blog so far. We'll continue to bring you the tastiest jams for years to come! Enjoy your weekend!

Schools - Alien
Feels Like: JEFF the Brotherhood, PUJOL, Cage the Elephant
Bowling Green natives Schools stir up a hefty brew of catchy punk rock. What better place to film such music than a sweaty East Nashville basement? Schools will be playing The End this Saturday the 10th and 8 off 8th at Mercy Lounge on the12th. Enjoy!

Toro Y Moi - So Many Details (Remix) Feat. Hodgy Beats
Feels Like: Washed Out, Beach House, Wiz Khalifa
Almost posted this song when it first came out, and now that Hodgy Beats has jumped on the remix, it's definitely worthy of some hype. The track is all mellow electronic and hazy vocals, and Hodgy Beats continues to prove he is the best rapper to come out of the Odd Future crew. So take a break from the constant stream of election news and jam out to some good hip-hop.

UP ALL NIGHT: Vampire Weekend - Unbelievers
Feels Like: Arcade Fire if they weren't depressed all the time
One of my favorite bands Vampire Weekend debuted a new song, "Unbelievers," on Jimmy Kimmel last night and it's pretty much everything we've come to expect from the band. Catchy melodies, a buoyant beat, and interesting instrumentation are their hallmarks and "Unbelievers" delivers them in spades. Fingers crossed this means their third album is on the horizon!
